Washington takes on the payment card data breaches.

Following the recent large-scale data breaches at retailers like Target and Neiman Marcus, the focus this week for at least 4 hearings in the Senate and House of Representatives will be payment card protection, reports Digital Transactions.

Monday will lead the charge with this hearing: “Safeguarding Consumers’ Financial Data.” Executives from Target, Neiman Marcus, and the PCI Security Standards Council are scheduled to testify. Further hearings are planned for the remainder of the week.
