Facebook Messenger will add payments.

Next up: Facebook’s separate app, Messenger, will add a payments feature that allows users to transfer funds between each other, reports Payments Source. In the endlessly foggy world of payments and technology, they are just one of many companies to jump on board with an increasingly social slant.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had announced last year that Messenger was set to add payments, and he had reinforced the notion that Facebook would remain “an ally to the payments industry, not a threat.” Zuckerberg wanted to position the social media giant as a partner to payment companies instead of as competition.

The app was released on March 17th and uses PIN authentication and Apple Touch ID for security.
